GUMBALL RALLY ON PHUKET

The latest edition of the Gumball Rally round-the-world car race is coming to Phuket this Wednesday (May 3).  Here's the press release:

The 2006 Gumball Rally is set to arrive in Phuket on May 3 and will stay at the Amanpuri Resort for the night before heading up to Bangkok for a party hosted by the Thai Royal Family. The infamous car rally is covering eight countries and three continents in eight days with approximately 120 cars and 240 drivers participating.

Cars taking part in the rally include 17 Lamborghinis, 11 Bentleys, 4 Rolls-Royces, 28 Ferraris, 12 Porsches, 3 Dodge Vipers, 6 Hummers, 1 Limousine and an Ice Cream Van. The estimated value of the machinery will total more than $30 million.

A unique collection of sporting stars, billionaires, actors and rock icons will be taking part including appearances from Johnny Knoxville, Jodie Kidd, Adrien Brody, Daryl Hannah, Paul Walker, Tony Hawk, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Martine McCutcheon, Missy Elliot , Ron Jeremy and Hugh Hefner.

The rally is kicking off Saturday April 29 with the London Launch party. The European route then goes from London through Brussels to Vienna on April 30, Vienna to Budapest on May 1, Budapest to Belgrade to Phuket on May 2. On May 3 there will be a party on the beach in Phuket then on May 4 they will drive from Phuket to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok.

On May 5 they travel from Bangkok to Salt Lake City for the premiere of Mission Impossible III then on May 6 they will drive to Miller Park Raceway then to Las Vegas where they will catch a performance from Snoop Dogg. They then finished the rally with a mad dash through Death Valley to Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles where they will have the finish party at the Playboy mansion.
The cars will be arriving aboard three of those huge Russian Anatov cargo planes sometime on May 2nd.  I'm trying to find out the approximate arrival time as I'd love to take some photos of the planes coming in over the beach just to the west of the Phuket Airport's runway.  Perhaps I can even get some shots of the cars driving down to the Amanpuri Resort as it will probably be the best chance to see them (security at the resort and on the beach will probably be extremely tight).
